This is an advanced science class for those interested in high tech biology. We do actual research in the field with close connections to The Evergreen State College. The first semester is used to work with bacteriophages in an attempt to cure a bacterial disease in Coho salmon called furunculosis, caused by Aeromonas salmonicida. The second semester will have us attempting to create glow in the dark house plants. We will be working at the microscopic level much of the time. We will manipulate genes. We will grow the plants using tissue culture techniques. Students must possess maturity and show initiative to be successful. |
