Subject: FAMILY HEALTH                     Dates: May12-20, 2008

 

EALRS: The student will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life:        movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

 

               The student will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain a healthy life: reduce health risks, and live safely.

 

OBJECTIVES:

  • Students will be able to demonstrate measures to help prevent, escape, and survive violent personal attack.
  • Students will be able to identify the priorities in responding to an emergency.
  • Students will be able to differentiate between types of wounds and know the first aid treatment for each one.
  • Students will be able to explain procedures for treating poisoning by swallowing, snakebite, or touching.
  • Students will describe steps for aiding a choking victim.
  • Students will be able to check for breathing and pulse.
  • Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of CPR.

 

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

 

MONDAY: PERSONAL SAFETY and FIRST AID introduction on Power Point. Read pages 760- 766 in the text.

 

 

TUESDAY: Present streaming First Aid Video … Read Chapter 35.

 

WEDNESDAY: Power point presentation on first aid basics for accident response, wounds, and burns. Read chapter 35 and complete Chapter 35 study guide. Due: Monday, May 19, 2008

 

 

THURSDAY: Review and discuss first aid for poisoning, choking, rescue breathing, and CPR.

 

FRIDAY: TRI DAY >>> Students not in school.

 

  MONDAY: Review and discuss first aid for common emergencies. Discuss the chapter 35 study guide during class.

 

TUESDAY: Take Chapter 35 Exam on providing first aid and handling emergencies.
