Wednesday, Feb. 13
Student
Leaders: Aaron Wheeler, Zach Cottrell,
Austin Lenz, Angel Vincamp
This is a “solo/ensemble” day. Many of the students are rehearsing or
solo/ensemble contest on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Michelle Schuh will be coming in to
rehearse with them. Please make sure
that as many solos or groups as possible have a chance to practice with
her. This will happen again next Wednesday.
Thursday, Feb. 14
Happy
Valentines’ Day
Student
Leaders: Aaron Wheeler, Zach Cottrell,
Austin Lenz, Angel Vincamp
Warm up using CD. Have a student leader, probably Aaron, lead the breathing exercises before singing with the
CD.
Pass out and do SATB Sightreading
exercise #6 using numbers. Be sure to do
a G Major scale and some interval practice first. Sopranos/Altos sing lines 1-3
(I have the altos sing them in 2,3,1 order so they’re not in unison),
Tenors sing lines 4,5,4 and Basses sing lines 6.7.8.
If they have difficulty singing all
four parts together, have each section sing their lines alone.
Have students sing contest music
together. Two of the three pieces are a
cappella, so you can direct them!
Hopefully, I will have an accompaniment CD for “Witness” before I leave. Please DO help them with phrasing, breaths,
dynamics, diction, etc.
SYMPHONIC CHOIR (5TH PERIOD)
Feb. 19-22
Tuesday, Feb. 19
Student
leaders: Aaron Wheeler, Zach Cottrell,
Austin Lenz, Angel Vincamp
Use the same procedure
for warming up.
Do the song “Skip to My
Lou” as a sightreading exercise. Have
them sing it on numbers a couple of times before they try the words. Also, try to lead them to discover that the
Sopranos and basses sing the same thing and so do they altos and tenors, so
it’s really only a two-part song.
Use the same procedure
for rehearsing that you did on Thursday.
Wednesday, Feb. 20
Michelle Schuh will be
here again to rehearse solo/ensemble pieces.
The difference here is that students are to have their songs PERFORMANCE
READY—that means memorized and polished.
If it is not, or if it doesn’t sound good, after conferring with
Michelle if you both agree, tell the student/s that they have until tomorrow to
get it down or they don’t go. I don’t
want anyone to be embarrassed or to be “worked over” by a judge in front of everybody. I have told the students that you and Mrs.
Schuh will have the final decision.
Thursday, Feb. 21
Same procedure as yesterday.
If there is anyone not going to solo/ensemble, please let Mr. Patterson
know so he can mark them off his attendance list. Also, please give me a call at 532-4437.
Friday, Feb. 22
Fridays
are going to be movie days. This class
will be watching “Across the Universe.
If you have problems
with
the projector or DVD player, ask Mr. Patterson.
Also, if there are students who want to practice solo/ensemble music,
please allow them to do so.
